Course Description
This course will be of interest to students who:
- Plan to work as business analysts, process analysts, consultants, or operations managers in technology-driven or process-intensive organizations.
- Intend to join large organizations or consulting firms where business process optimization, digital transformation, and enterprise systems play a central role.
- Are preparing for roles in process improvement, operational excellence, or digital operations, including positions related to ERP, BPM, and automation initiatives.
- Want to understand how data-driven process analysis and process mining can support managerial decision-making and performance improvement.
- Are interested in process simulation can be applied to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability of business operations.
The course focuses on organizational business processes across functional areas, with applications spanning services, manufacturing, and digital business environments. Emphasis is placed on structured, repeatable processes that can be modeled, analyzed, improved, and automated within modern enterprise systems.
Educational Objectives
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive and practical understanding of business processes and Business Process Management (BPM) within organizational contexts.
Students will learn how to:
- Understand and apply core concepts of business processes and BPM lifecycles, from identification to monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Model business processes using established methodologies, with attention to data, decisions, roles, and system integration.
- Analyze and evaluate existing processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Design and redesign business processes using process improvement and reengineering principles, balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and control.
- Use process mining techniques to extract insights from event data and assess real process behavior versus designed models.
- Explore how process monitoring, performance measurement, simulation, and RPA support operational excellence and digital transformation initiatives.
The course bridges managerial, analytical, and technological perspectives, preparing students to contribute effectively to process-driven organizations.
Course Content and Organization
Through lectures, seminars, case studies, and hands-on team exercises, students will examine the challenges of managing and improving business processes in modern enterprises. The course combines conceptual foundations with applied tools and real-world examples.
